Library of Congress! No, really! There are over 3000 old photos and slides from the LOC's archives, and they're incredible. I've only looked at the first few pages, but they're just stunning. Another cool thing is that, at least for the ones I've looked at so far, they have no copyright restrictions, so you can download them and use them for whatever you want. Here's my favorite of the ones I've seen:

WWII taught the world that woman CAN do anything that the men do. And we do it quite well.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. That photo is great. I know it's pure romanticizing and times were beyond tough, but when have you seen a photo from this period where the woman doesn't look totally gorgeous?! I'm going to go check these out.

ReplyDeleteSarah, I've noticed that too! I wonder if they really always looked gorgeous like that, or if photography was still somewhat novel and something to dress up for. Cameras had been around for a long time by then, but maybe they weren't all over the place. Or maybe it was just easier to get rid of the bad pictures, as opposed to nowadays when they are all over the internet minutes after being taken. ;)
