Gustav. Gross.

I've put up some more Gustav pics in my Flickr set - mostly just photos of the destruction around town, taken while I was driving (so forgive the less-than-stellar composition and exposure, por favor).  Here are a few highlights:

Downed Power Lines
Power lines. Power lines power lines power lines. Down. Everywhere.

Near Bawell and College Dr.
There are parts of the parish (what we call a county in LA, don't ask) that will be without power for three weeks. Three weeks.

Ick.
So many people have trees on/in their houses. Suck.

But, there is some good news!

Near Downtown
Blue tarps!!!!! The blue tarps have arrived, my friends, and they are popping up all over town!

Now, we're just hoping and praying and crossing fingers, legs, and toes that Ike doesn't hit us too badly!

  1. Oh wow! Three weeks without power? The 5 days we did in December will last me the rest of my life. I think I need a blue tarp because my roof leaks due to a hail storm.

  2. Yikes! I hope you're able to dodge anything too bad from Ike... looks like he's headed right for Houston.

  3. About the "Parish" thing. Louisiana switched back and forth from France to Spain a few times before becoming part of the US. Since both of those countries were mainly Catholic, everything was divvied up by church parish. It stuck.

Glad you made it out of Gustav ok (except for your poor awning.)

  4. I always figured it was a Catholic thing - thanks for clearing that up, Shannon! =)
